I returned to paint this creek bed several times during different seasons. This time the salt bush was lush after a good season of rain. It contrasts with the painting of the creek during drought and another painting ‘The Pinnacles’. I loved painting the rich variety of red soil colours ranging from the pink sand of the creek beds to the deep vibrant reds of the cut banks and the purples in the shadows and rocks. One of my larger landscapes, it required a sturdy makeshift easel to prevent the composition board (Masonite) from blowing over in the wind. To assemble the easel on the spot, I drove two stakes into the ground with a rock, securing the board to the stakes with four G-clamps at the corners.
