Luzia Sutter Rehmann explores the development of a hermeneutics of hunger. Hermeneutics addresses the prerequisites for understanding. It concerns the question of through which lens we read the texts, what assumptions we make in order to understand these ancient writings. Using selected biblical texts, this book reveals what we, the well-fed, tend to overlook: the Bible unfolds a theology of the hungry. It is about understanding the anger that is a reaction to, perhaps even the answer to, hunger. Anger is the unconditional feeling that something is wrong and that something must be done. Therefore, it can be critical and visionary. It is directed toward something that is not yet present. To pursue it means to perceive anew the transformed power of Scripture.
